LEDERER | Prototype 00 and the Moment of Recognition

When Prototype 00 Became Part of Horological History

Some timepieces mark a moment in time.

On 9 May 2026, during the Phillips Geneva Watch Auction at the Hotel President Wilson, LEDERER Prototype 00 achieved CHF 342,900 under LOT N°100. Beyond the result itself, the auction revealed something far more meaningful: a growing recognition for independent watchmaking driven by excellence, genuine horological research, and the pursuit of meaningful progress in horology.

Philosophy Shaped Through Time

For more than four decades, Bernhard Lederer has pursued a deeply personal vision of horology shaped by chronometry, mechanical research, excellence, and meaningful advancement in watchmaking.

Prototype 00 emerged during the development of the CIC 39 InVerto at a decisive stage of that journey.

Created in steel and preserved outside regular production, the piece carried the final refinements of the InVerto architecture before its definitive titanium execution was introduced. More than a prototype, it became the space where the harmony between proportions, legibility, mechanical interaction, and wrist presence was refined under real conditions.

My story is about crafting without borders, where architecture intertwines with technology and both worlds compose a single symphony.

I see myself as the conductor of this orchestra, where every element carries its own voice and purpose.

That has always been my vision from the very beginning.

In my watchmaking, there is no hierarchy — there is harmony.

When the Movement Became the Dial

At the heart of the project stood a singular horological vision : allowing the movement to become the direct and living expression of time.

Through inversion, the Central Impulse Chronometer evolved beyond its conventional position within the timepiece. Its architecture, rhythm, and mechanical life became fully integrated into the reading of time itself. The movement no longer remained hidden behind the dial ; it became the dial.

Such an approach required more than technical resolution alone. The architecture needed to preserve immediate clarity, emotional balance, and natural harmony while exposing the full complexity of the mechanics.

Prototype 00 became the moment where this equilibrium fully revealed itself.

Handled, studied, adjusted, and worn by Bernhard Lederer throughout the creative process, the piece preserved something exceptionally rare : the final moment where the timepiece was still evolving.

Beyond Rarity

As a one-off steel execution preserved outside regular production, Prototype 00 occupies a singular position within the development of the InVerto architecture. Its Proto 00 signature on the dial, handwritten documents, and original sketches connected the piece directly to the creative process behind the watch itself. Together, they preserved not only the object, but also the environment in which the final architecture was refined.

But the significance of this timepiece extended far beyond rarity alone.

Prototype 00 preserved a rare moment in watchmaking: the stage where the final form already exists, while precision, balance, proportions, and wrist presence are still being evaluated, refined, and perfected.

For many collectors, this emotional and intellectual proximity to creation is precisely what gives such pieces their singular place within independent horology.

A Defining Moment for LEDERER

The result achieved in Geneva therefore reflects far more than market recognition alone. It marks a growing appreciation for watchmaking shaped by long-term vision, meaningful research, and the pursuit of chronometric excellence.

As LEDERER prepares to celebrate forty years of independent watchmaking by Bernhard Lederer, Prototype 00 now stands as an important chapter within that continuing story.

Some timepieces enter collections; others preserve a rare moment in the evolution of an idea.

Prototype 00 now belongs to that rare company.

“For me, Prototype 00 was never created as an object to preserve, but as a moment of exploration — a necessary step in the pursuit of harmony between chronometry, architecture, and emotion. Seeing collectors understand and embrace that philosophy today is deeply meaningful.”

The Present Collection

The CIC 39 InVerto Titanium is currently fully allocated until autumn-2027, reflecting the strong appreciation it has inspired among collectors worldwide.

Its reception confirms the resonance of the InVerto concept among those who seek originality, chronometric excellence, and coherent design. Collectors have recognized in it a modern expression of independent Haute Horlogerie.

Those wishing to be considered for future allocations are warmly invited to register their interest through our website or contact us directly.

For collectors seeking a singular opportunity available today, Prototype 00 offers an immediate path into the InVerto story through its earliest and most meaningful chapter.

A Chapter That Endures

Some watches enter collections.

A few preserve the very instant when history took form.

A Chapter in a Long-Term Exploration

For Bernhard Lederer, the InVerto 39 Titanium is a natural chapter in a lifelong exploration of chronometry and mechanical coherence. For more than four decades, his work has been guided by a single question, how can energy flow through a movement with the greatest possible stability, clarity, and respect for mechanical truth ?

The InVerto continues a line of thought where architecture serves understanding, and where innovation strengthens coherence over time.
